I could get used to this view

Richard and I enjoying the view

two choice friends

My final day in California would be one of relaxation/recovery. I woke up the next morning to another splendid view of the ocean, and even took the liberty to read the morning paper on the balcony. After a long chat with Richard and his father in the kitchen and on the balcony, I had to bid Dick goodbye. We took a couple of photos before I departed and I tried in some way to communicate my thanks to him.

I hung out with Richard for a short stint during the remainder of the morning/early afternoon. He took me out to a local mall where we were able to grab a quick bite to eat. He also insisted that we go by a book store and he purchased a copy of The Bridge of San Luis Rey for me, which is one of his father's favorites. He also gave me Citizen Soldiers by Stephen Ambrose during the week, but I have yet to read it. After our shopping mall excursion, we said our goodbyes and I headed off. I am quite happy to have finally met Richard (and his father.) I feel as if I have gained two good friends. They are both choice people.

I went back to Corona and on a whim, entertained the idea of going to the beach with a friend of Michael's, but chose instead to hang around at his place. I was exhausted and I had a lot of packing to do. Quite frankly, I didn't want to do anything else. I had accomplished all of my goals for the week and then some. I wanted simply to relax. That evening, I was able to take Michael and Kristy out to dinner and then Michael and I headed over to one of his friend's houses and enjoyed the soothing pleas
ures of their hot tub. After that, there was no way that I would be able to do anything else productive the rest of the night. Luckily I was already packed and awaiting my morning flight.

Thus, my California adventure comes to an end. First thing in the morning, I will catch a flight back home to Maryland and the next morning, I will be at work as usual. Most people are regretful at the end of their vacations, but I seldom am. I had a wonderful time with great friends, and I saw stirring scenes, felt inspirational emotions, and contemplated divine thoughts that will last for a lifetime. It was a week filled with superlatives that will not soon fade from my memory.
